Published Jul 14, 2020Like it or not, Kanye West really is running for president — or at least that's what he thinks. And since actually winning that sort of race requires a lot of powerful allies, the rapper seems to have Elon Musk back in his corner, despite the tech mogul recently distancing himself from the campaign.
To refresh your memory, Musk voiced early support for Kanye as president, but after the star explained some seriously polarizing policies, the Tesla co-founder quickly backed away. Now, however, Musk has clarified his Kanye stance.
"Kanye explained afterward some of the reasoning behind why he said what he said," Musk told Page Six.
And while Musk didn't go into specifics, he added, "It makes more sense than many people, including me, realized."
As previously reported, Kanye claimed that Planned Parenthood "does the devil's work" and came out as an anti-vaxxer, among other things. Planned Parenthood, of course, wasn't too pleased.
Making his position clear, though, Musk said, "I have not dropped my support for Kanye, although I think 2024 would be better than 2020."
Even with Musk's support, West really has quite the battle ahead of him if he wants to lead the U.S. Not only has he yet to file any official paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, he's polling at just 2 percent.
